Mike's area of professional expertise is Corporate Recovery and Insolvency. Acting for office holders, lenders or companies in difficulty his practice covers business rescue and reconstruction; business and asset disposals and acquisitions; international tracing and recovery of assets, insolvency and recovery litigation, compliance and professional issues and advice on the conduct of estates.
His reputation as a 'problem solver' has involved him in some of the most unusual insolvent and non-insolvency cases of the last 20 years. Among others he acted for the administrators of Polly Peck International and in various Maxwell Company insolvencies.
He is a member of R3 (the Association of Business Recovery Professionals), the Insolvency Practitioners Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is a licensed Insolvency practitioner. He is also co-author of Insolvency Procedures Notes (Sweet & Maxwell) and various published articles. He has also appeared regularly in the press, radio and TV. Mike joined the Firm as a Partner in 2008. He also regularly lectures professional and trade groups in recovery related topics from credit control to asset stripping to fraud tracing and on the corporate side of recovery in topics such as defensive merger, reconstruction or offensive distressed purchase or takeover.
The other part of Mike's practice is rather more wide ranging; advising a wide range of corporate and personal clients emanating from over 20 years of practice in the City and in law and broadly related activities. These clients include a number of well known corporates and individuals including insurance companies, brand names and financial institutions, well known personalities and influential families. In these cases Mike's input is often project management or commercial advice; also brokering introductions and opportunities between clients and contacts, both in the UK and internationally, particularly in North America, the Middle East, South Asia and China.
